NOIRvember returns and begins with THE MALTESE FALCON! Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 100%, the Critics Consensus: "Suspenseful, labyrinthine, and brilliantly cast, The Maltese Falcon is one of the most influential noirs -- as well as a showcase for Humphrey Bogart at his finest."

The 7:00pm Show on Wednesday 11/2 at the MARIEMONT Theatre, will be Introduced and followed by a Film Discussion with Professor Joe Horine.

Named the “Greatest Male Star of Classic American Cinema” by the American Film Institute, Humphrey Bogart made more than 100 feature films in a career spanning nearly 30 years in becoming one the largest icons of Hollywood’s golden years. Initially relegated to mainly gangster roles (largely because producers thought he looked like John Dillinger), Bogart became the prototypical leading man in films like CASABLANCA and made some of the most memorable films ever:

THE MALTESE FALCON (1941): John Huston’s directorial debut (and the first of six films where he directed his close friend Bogart) is a Film Noir classic based on Dashiell Hammett’s detective fiction that’s ranked #31 on AFI’s list of the greatest films of all time. Sterling supporting performances by Sydney Greenstreet, Peter Lorre, Elisha Cook Jr and especially Mary Astor as one of Hollywood’s greatest “femme fatale” characters of all time make this movie “the thing that dreams are made of.”

This NOIRVEMBER join us for David Lynch's 1997 Neo-Noir

LOST HIGHWAY

David Lynch’s seventh feature film, travels down a twisting road of perverse menace as a jazz saxophonist (Bill Pullman) and his wife (Patricia Arquette) begin receiving disturbing VHS tapes—leading to jealousy, murder, and a startling mid-act transformation that radically recontextualizes everything that came before it. Berserk violence, scrambled identities, a thunderous industrial soundtrack, and one of cinema’s most memorable Mystery Men (Robert Blake)—Lynch swirls it all into a screeching psychological manifestation of guilt, trauma, and denial that ranks among his most potent cinematic nightmares.
